A joint security operation between national security and customs at the Karakrat border crossing, south of Dakhla, on the evening of Saturday, October 4, resulted in the thwarting of an international drug smuggling attempt, seizing 53.63 kilograms of cocaine.
The border monitoring operation and inspections, which included police-trained dogs, led to the discovery of the drug shipments carefully hidden in the metal body of an international freight truck with foreign license plates. The vehicle was coming from a sub-Saharan African country before the driver abandoned it at the border crossing.
An initial investigation has been launched under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office to uncover all circumstances of the case and identify all individuals involved, as well as to trace the extent of these criminal activities, both within Morocco and at the regional and international levels.
This joint operation is part of ongoing intensive efforts by various security agencies at the Karakrat border crossing to combat international drug smuggling and all forms of transnational crime.
