Israeli Soldiers Intercept the Ship ‘Hanzala’ Bound for Gaza Relief, Detaining Its Crew

Israeli forces boarded the “Hanthala” ship, part of the “Freedom Fleet” group, which was sailing to Gaza on the evening of Saturday, July 27, to provide aid to the residents of the region.

Live broadcasts showed activists sitting on the deck of the ship, raising their hands and chanting the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella Ciao,” while Israeli soldiers took control of the vessel.

The “Hanthala” was intercepted approximately 60 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza, in international waters near the Egyptian maritime border, as it attempted to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian assistance to the roughly two million impoverished residents of the territory.

According to the volunteer activists organizing the “Hanthala,” Israeli drones monitored the ship’s movements throughout the evening of July 26, while Israeli military boats began to approach as night fell.
