The municipality of Assilah has announced that parking in the city will be free, except for the enclosed parking lot at Bab al-Bahr. This announcement coincides with the start of summer, with the municipality wishing everyone a pleasant holiday in the city.
Starting Wednesday, July 9, the Tangier municipality will implement a new parking system affecting several city streets. The municipality will charge a higher parking rate during the summer, with the cost set at 4 dirhams per hour, compared to 3 dirhams for the rest of the year.
There are accusations against the municipality for illegally selling and occupying streets to appease the company “somagec,” which has suffered losses due to the incomplete implementation of a management contract, particularly following the ban on the use of wheel clamps.
Additionally, the Tangier municipality is criticized for allowing unauthorized parking attendants to occupy public streets, leading to public outcry and demands for better regulation of this sector. In response, the municipality asserts that citizens will not be approached for money and that any refusal to pay parking fees will be handled legally through official reports before escalating to court, without using wheel clamps or conflict.
