Liberia, a new non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council starting in 2026, reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, including the Western Sahara region. This position was expressed by Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sarah Bioso Nyanati, during a press conference following her meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Minister Nyanati reiterated Liberia’s complete support for the autonomy plan, describing it as “the only credible, serious, and realistic solution” to the dispute. She emphasized that Liberia will continue to uphold this stance as a new non-permanent member of the Security Council beginning in January 2026.
Additionally, Minister Nyanati praised the growing international consensus on this issue and commended the momentum led by King Mohammed VI in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
