Will the Tangier Stadium Be Ready for the African Cup of Nations? Lacjack Responds

Fouzi Lekjaa, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, confirmed that the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier will be ready to host the Africa Cup of Nations by the end of 2026. He emphasized that the stadium will meet the quality standards seen in Europe and World Cup venues.

In an interview with the French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” on July 3, 2025, Lekjaa discussed preparations for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. He highlighted that this event is more than just a sporting occasion; it serves as an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s modern image and rich cultural heritage. This aligns with King Mohammed VI’s vision of using the tournament as a platform to present the country’s historical and cultural legacy while ensuring a world-class organizational experience.

Lekjaa reported that all stadiums are fully prepared, with a focus on the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat and the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, both of which will also host matches for the 2030 World Cup. He confirmed that all nine stadiums designated for the tournament adhere to international standards, ensuring optimal conditions for the 24 participating teams’ training and preparations.

Additionally, Lekjaa addressed the upcoming 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal. He assured that Moroccan stadiums, particularly in Rabat and Tangier, will meet the standards required for this global event, comparable to those at the European Championships or the World Cup.
