Achraf Hakimi, captain of Morocco, has shared what he believes to be the key to the Atlas Lions’ recent achievements. He attributes their historic success to the strong camaraderie among the players.
In a live interview on ABtalks, the Paris Saint-Germain star expressed how much the Moroccan squad enjoys spending quality time together, both on and off the field.
“The secret is quite simple: we have an incredible atmosphere,” Hakimi remarked.
“We have fun, dance, laugh, play cards, and make the most of our time together. That’s the most vital aspect, as we feel like one big family.”
Hakimi believes that this unity has emerged as one of Morocco’s greatest assets as they continue their remarkable journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions are gearing up to face the Netherlands in the Round of 32 on Tuesday in Monterrey, Mexico, with a place in the last 16 on the line.
Despite the challenging road ahead, Hakimi feels that Morocco is capable of reaching even greater heights.
“Words can’t capture the feeling,” he said regarding the prospect of winning the World Cup.
“I truly believe we can make this dream a reality, but we also understand the importance of staying focused on every single match.”
The 27-year-old acknowledged that claiming football’s most prestigious trophy would be a landmark achievement, not only for Morocco but for the entire African continent.
“We will give our all to advance as far as possible. Perhaps, one day, we could even win the World Cup,” he added.
“It would mark the first time an African nation lifts the World Cup, and it would be a historic moment for Morocco. The entire country would celebrate like never before.”
Hakimi further mentioned that leading Morocco to a World Cup title would be an unforgettable experience.
“I hope to witness that day. Raising the trophy as the captain of Morocco would be truly special.”
With a sense of confidence after topping their group, Morocco enters the knockout stage, hoping that their unity and determination will bring them closer to achieving football history.
