The shipping company Baleària, known to Moroccans during crossing trips as part of the “Marhaba” operation, is preparing to launch a new operation for maritime waste transport, after signing a contract with the Spanish authorities that extends for two years and is valued at over 2.7 million euros.
The operation will be carried out via trucks loaded with special waste containers, which will be loaded onto the vessel on a daily journey from Monday to Friday.
The contract signed between the concerned parties and the shipping company allows for the continued use of unused spaces on board the ship for transporting passengers and goods as well, in a model that combines logistics services with commercial activity at the same time.
This arrangement reflects Baleària’s commitment to maintaining the profitability of its maritime activity by fully utilizing the ship’s capacity during trips, whether for waste transport or for providing regular transport services.
According to Spanish media, this concerns non-recyclable waste, which will begin to be transported in the coming days from the island of Ibiza, in preparation for processing it in other areas, after the main landfill on the island has reached advanced levels of saturation.
