Morocco Issues Heatwave and Thunderstorm Warning Level Orange Through Wednesday

Casablanca – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange weather alert ahead of a heatwave and thunderstorms expected to impact various regions from Saturday to Wednesday.

On Saturday, thunderstorms are predicted to bring rainfall of 20 to 30 mm in the provinces of Khenifra, Ifrane, Jerada, Boulemane, and Midelt, occurring between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m. These storms may also be accompanied by strong winds and hail.

Starting Sunday, a heatwave will set in, with temperatures forecasted to reach between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius in Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, Errachidia, Taroudant, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Settat, Kalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Figuig, Jerada, Youssoufia, Khenifra, and Taounate.

In addition, higher temperatures ranging from 40 to 44 degrees are anticipated the same day in Zagora, Tata, Es-Smara, Assa-Zag, Aousserd, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Tinghir.

From Monday to Wednesday, temperatures of 40 to 43 degrees are expected in Sidi Bennour, Khenifra, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouazzane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Essaouira, Khemisset, and Meknes.

During the same period, temperatures between 42 and 45 degrees are forecast in Kalaat Sraghna, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Smara, Tata, Taroudant, Aousserd, Settat, Chichaoua, and Marrakech.

This latest alert follows weeks of unstable weather in Morocco during June, with repeated warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and successive heatwaves affecting various regions. Meteorologists have noted that localized storm activity persists in some inland and mountainous areas despite the rising temperatures.
