F1 and the FIA have confirmed a delay to the start of the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Suzuka Circuit, which has been a long-time host of the Japan race, was due to start its latest event at 14:00 local time.
However, a major crash in a support category damaged barriers at Turn 12.
In an effort to ensure the safety of the upcoming grand prix, the decision to delay the start was made in order to carry out the necessary repairs.
The formation lap will now begin at 14:10 local time – a 10-minute delay to the original plan.
“Start of formation lap will be delayed due to barrier repairs ongoing at Turn 12 after an incident in a support category,” read a statement from the FIA.
The barrier repairs in question are being carried out after a car rolled over the fencing at the corner.
Kimi Antonelli will start the race from pole position, ahead of team-mate George Russell, with both title protagonists aiming for their second win of the season.
