With the slogan “The life of Moroccans matters,” a symbolic gathering was organized on the evening of Friday, July 24, in the Square of Nations in the city of Tangier, which was participated in by a number of activists, youth, and rights defenders, to express solidarity with the family of Moroccan citizen Abderrahim Fakir, who died following a security intervention in the city of Bologna, Italy.
The participants in the gathering condemned what they described as the excessive violence that the deceased faced at the hands of the Italian police, demanding a transparent and independent investigation to reveal all the circumstances of the incident and define responsibilities.
They confirmed that the dignity of Moroccans is non-negotiable and that truth and justice are fundamental rights that cannot be relinquished.
The activists stressed the necessity of continued follow-up by Moroccan authorities, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, as well as diplomatic missions, on this case until the end, with the aim of achieving justice for the victim and his family and ensuring that the issue is not swept under the rug without accountability.
Speaking out, the participants also pointed to the growing phenomenon of racism and stigmatization faced by migrants in Europe in general and in Italy in particular, especially Moroccan migrants, considering that such incidents reflect broader human rights challenges. They concluded the gathering by affirming that human rights are indivisible and must be enjoyed by all, with the same rights and duties, regardless of nationality or origin.
This mobilization comes as part of a series of Moroccan reactions in solidarity with the deceased, at a time when the family and public opinion are closely following the developments of the ongoing investigations in Italy.
