“It was a very complex examination, and we must wait for the results of the additional investigations performed.” This was stated by the forensic doctor Benedetto Vergari, consultant for the four volunteers from the Red Cross who were present on Via Svevo last Sunday when 42-year-old Abderrahim Fakir died, at the end of the autopsy. The examination, which lasted six hours, concluded this afternoon around 5 PM. “We cannot say anything,” Vergari remarked, “as a matter of respect for what happened and professional confidentiality. It was a very detailed and thorough examination, but it is a complex case and we need to wait.” Outside the mortuary, others involved and representatives from the prosecutor’s office are awaiting updates.
Presence of live blood in the lungs and crushing. According to various sources, these are among the elements revealed by the autopsy on Abderrahim Fakir’s body. Regarding these two aspects, it remains to be determined whether the crushing was due to excessive use of force while the man was alive or if it occurred “post-mortem” during resuscitation efforts. Likewise, it still needs to be established whether the presence of blood in the lungs was due to possible cocaine use by Fakir or excessive compression.
Statements from the lawyer representing Fakir’s family and the police officers
“I am not a forensic doctor, but I believe there may be an undeniable asphyxiation scenario due to compression. However, we must await the conclusions.” This was stated to Ansa by Fakir’s family lawyer, Fabio Anselmo, regarding the autopsy.
Lawyer Gabriele Bordoni, representing the two police officers registered under 45 bis, stated: “According to what my forensic expert has informed me, the thorough analysis conducted during the autopsy did not reveal any indication of excessive or violent actions on the part of the two officers.”
