The Head of the Economic Affairs Department in the Casablanca-Anfa Prefecture, Nour Eddine Boukam, reported that the regional mixed committee for monitoring prices and the quality of foodstuffs conducted inspections in 2025 at a total of 16,369 commercial establishments within the prefecture.
Boukam clarified in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency that the prefectural authorities monitor commercial establishments open to the public throughout the year, indicating that 807 violations were recorded during these operations, which fall under Law No. 104.12 concerning price freedom and competition (258 violations), Law No. 31.08 concerning consumer protection (273 violations), and Law No. 77.15 prohibiting the production, import, export, marketing, and use of plastic bags (276 violations).
He added that these violations were subject to reports submitted to the competent public prosecutor to take the necessary actions, highlighting that 359 warnings were issued to the concerned traders, while 63 decisions were made to suspend commercial activities for violators due to non-compliance with health regulations.
Regarding the confiscated food items that were unfit for consumption or of unknown origin, the official stated on the sidelines of a tour conducted by the regional mixed committee for monitoring prices and the quality of foodstuffs in the Casablanca-Anfa markets that they reached approximately 8 tons and 537 kilograms in 2025, adding that 1,038 kilograms of banned plastic bags were seized.
Mr. Boukam noted that following the recent meeting of the joint ministerial committee for vigilance and monitoring market supplies and prices, which was dedicated to preparing for the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, a special monitoring program was established in line with the instructions of the Prefect of the Casablanca-Anfa Prefecture, focusing on monitoring establishments open to the public, including municipal markets, large stores and warehouses, bakeries, confectionery shops, butcheries, as well as tracking consumer complaints.
He mentioned that these operations continue throughout the year, pointing out that the regional mixed committee for monitoring prices and the quality of foodstuffs includes representatives from the economic affairs department of the prefecture, the regional directorate of the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA), the regional directorate of trade and industry, civil protection, the regional health and social protection delegation, in addition to local authorities.
For their part, several traders in the municipal market in Maarif praised the efforts of the competent authorities in regularly monitoring prices and the quality of foodstuffs, especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan.
