The Tijani Order in Morocco has entered into the crisis of the Africa Cup final with Senegal, emphasizing the love between the two peoples and the sanctity of their bonds and shared kinship, which should not be affected by a sports event.
The statement issued by Mohamed el-Kabir Ben Ahmed Tijani, the Sheikh of the Tijani Zawiya, confirmed that what unites the Kingdom of Morocco with the Republic of Senegal transcends geographical boundaries and transient political interests, as it relates to the “bond of spirit” and “unity of belief,” and the ties of kinship that have been strengthened over the centuries. He said, “We are, in fact, one people in two countries, united by a shared sentiment based on love for God and for God’s sake, and this love should not be diminished or tarnished by a sporting event, no matter how fervent it may be.”
The Order called on everyone to exercise vigilance and wisdom, and not to be swayed by the advocates of sedition, extremism, and violence who try to exploit sporting competitions to sow division and poison the atmosphere. The bonds of faith require tolerance and overlooking faults, prioritizing the language of reason and heart over the language of impulse and fanaticism.
The Tijani concluded by calling for overcoming this passing cloud and continuing the journey of cooperation and solidarity in all fields. Morocco and Senegal will remain, as they always have been, a model to emulate in sincere African brotherhood, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and his brother Bachir Diumaï Faye in Senegalese leadership.
