The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia signed two agreements for religious cooperation today, Thursday, in Addis Ababa, within the framework of strengthening religious and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
The first agreement, which received the approval of King Mohammed VI, concerns the training of 200 Ethiopian imams at the Mohammed VI Institute for Training Imams, Guides, and Female Guides in Rabat, over five years, in accordance with a rigorous scientific and educational approach aimed at establishing the methodology of moderation and balance, enhancing spiritual security, and promoting the values of tolerant Islam.
The second agreement takes the form of a memorandum of understanding aimed at exchanging experiences and practices in managing religious affairs and continuing education, enhancing cooperation between scholars of the two countries, through the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, in a manner that serves the pure Islamic religion, unifies the efforts of scholars, and contributes to the dissemination of values of tolerance and coexistence, and strengthens shared religious constants.
The signing of these two agreements reflects the depth of the religious and scientific ties that unite the Kingdom of Morocco with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and its African extension.
In this context, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tuafa, President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, emphasized the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in serving the pure Islamic religion and promoting African cooperation based on knowledge, wisdom, unity, and shared values.
He also highlighted that the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, under the wise leadership of the Commander of the Faithful, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has become a true scientific and spiritual reference on the African continent.
Sheikh Ibrahim Tuafa praised, on this occasion, the multiple initiatives launched by the foundation in service of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, particularly through organizing, for the first time in the history of Ethiopia, a competition for memorizing, reciting, and chanting the Holy Quran, along with another specialized in the noble prophetic hadith.
He added that the two signed agreements represent a real roadmap for enhancing the exchange of experiences, training religious leaders, organizing scientific meetings, and strengthening educational work based on wisdom and moderation, expressing hope that this institutional collaboration will contribute to framing imams and guides in Ethiopia and establishing a comprehensive spiritual and intellectual renaissance.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars, Mohammed Rafqi, confirmed that the signing of these two agreements falls within the framework of consolidating religious and scientific cooperation between Morocco and Ethiopia, reflecting the visionary vision of King Mohammed VI, the Commander of the Faithful.
He explained that the first agreement, extending over five years, will enable the training of 200 Ethiopian imams according to a strict scientific and pedagogical approach aimed at instilling the principles of moderation and balance, enhancing spiritual security, and spreading the values of peace and tolerant Islam throughout the country.
The memorandum of understanding, the speaker added, will allow 60 Ethiopian officials to benefit, in two phases, from a comprehensive training course in Morocco, and to learn about the experience that the Kingdom of Morocco has accumulated over more than 13 centuries in managing religious affairs.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Scientific Council, Said Shbar, emphasized the importance of the two agreements in serving the Islamic religion, both in Ethiopia and across the African continent, and in promoting the values that the pure religion calls for.
He also mentioned the role played by the Supreme Scientific Council, under the presidency of King Mohammed VI, the Commander of the Faithful, in instilling the values of moderation and balance that the Islamic religion advocates.
