Data from the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration showed that Moroccans “dominate” the labor market, forming the largest group of foreign workers registered in the Spanish social security system by the end of 2025.
According to official statistics, the total number of foreign workers in social security by December 2025 was approximately 3,135,581 persons. This is a new record that reflects an increase of about 800,000 affiliates compared to the situation prior to the labor market reform. This number is about one million more than it was at the end of 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moroccan citizens lead the list of foreign workers with a percentage exceeding any other nationality, with around 373,436 persons registered in social security. They are followed by nationalities such as Romania (336,530), Colombia (250,248), and Venezuela (215,735). Other countries like Italy, China, Peru, and Ukraine come next on the list.
Foreign employment now represents about 14.1% of the total registered workers in the Spanish social security system, showing a slight increase from the previous year. This highlights the importance of the workforce contribution from abroad to the Spanish economy.
In a press statement, Spanish Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, Ilma Saiz, confirmed that these figures indicate that foreign workers’ role is no longer temporary or limited. Instead, it has become structural and central to the growth of the labor market, the sustainability of the Spanish pension system, and has contributed to overall economic welfare.
