A delegation representing the sports security team from the United Kingdom visited the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat on Wednesday, January 14. This visit was part of the Moroccan-British bilateral security cooperation program in preparation for the 2030 World Cup.
The delegation was briefed on the various components of the security and public order protocol implemented by the Rabat security authority during the football match between the Moroccan and Nigerian national teams, as part of the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
This visit provided an opportunity for the British delegation to learn about the advanced level and important expertise that the national security services have accumulated in managing security at new generation sports facilities. This is particularly in relation to deploying security teams and electronically coordinating them, as well as utilizing precise visual monitoring technologies to accompany the movement of fans into the stadium and when leaving until they disperse completely, in an environment that combines sports entertainment with the utmost security standards recognized internationally.
The British delegation also conducted a similar visit that morning to the African Security Cooperation Center in the city of Salé, which hosts the operational coordination efforts between the Moroccan national security services and their counterparts from African countries participating in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This included representatives from Spain, Portugal, Qatar, and the International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol.
During their visit to the African Security Cooperation Center, being the first of its kind in the history of African football competitions, the British delegation observed advanced levels of professional coordination and the preparation of proactive action plans between Moroccan and African security services. This enabled the organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations football matches in Morocco in a global atmosphere, combining modern infrastructure with Moroccan hospitality on one hand, and the professionalism of security and its high capacity to ensure safe environments on the other hand.
The visit of the British delegation to Morocco comes to review the experience of securing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations matches amidst an international consensus on the success of the Moroccan model in securing sporting events. This success is largely attributed to Morocco’s commitment to international security cooperation mechanisms with police agencies from friendly countries, as well as with specialized international organizations.
