The United States has decided to stop processing immigration visas in 75 countries, including Morocco, as part of a campaign to combat “public charge,” under the strict immigration policy being followed by President Donald Trump in his second term.
According to an internal memo from the department, obtained by Fox News Network, the instructions direct consular staff to deny visas (for residency in America) under current law, pending a reassessment of screening and verification procedures.
The implementation of this decision will begin on January 21, 2026, and will continue indefinitely until the department completes its comprehensive review of visa processing operations.

Reason
The spokesperson for the State Department, Tomi Lehren, stated in a statement reported by a channel close to Trump: “The State Department will utilize its longstanding authority to deny potential immigrants who may become a public charge to the United States and exploit the generosity of the American people.”
He added that immigration from these 75 countries will be temporarily halted during the reassessment of procedures to prevent the entry of foreigners who may rely on social assistance and public aid.
The “public charge” clause upon which the decision is based has decades of precedent in U.S. immigration law, which allows consular employees to deny applicants if they are likely to rely on government assistance.
The decision takes into account broad factors such as health, age, English proficiency, financial status, and even the potential need for long-term medical care.
