The urgent chamber of the commercial court in Casablanca issued an order for the three telecommunications companies to block unauthorized betting sites in Morocco.
The ruling was issued against Maroc Telecom, Inwi, and Orange as follows: “The defendant is ordered to block the electronic sites and all their subdomains under penalty of a threatening fine of 10,000.00 dirhams for each day of non-compliance with immediate enforcement.”
The judgment was issued on Monday, January 12, based on an urgent lawsuit filed by the Moroccan Games and Sports Company (MDJS), which legally monopolizes the organization and management of gambling and sports betting in Morocco.
The companies will be required to block many sites, the most notable of which are:
- 1XBET
- Melbet
- Linebet
- Betwinner
- Stake
- Mostbet
The order did not limit itself to the main platforms but also covered local intermediary sites or “agents” like Herofoot and Orange Depo, which facilitate deposit and withdrawal transactions via Moroccan bank accounts and local phone numbers, allowing for the flow of money out of the country away from the scrutiny of the exchange office.
Commencement of Enforcement
The companies have already begun blocking access to the websites concerned by the court ruling, making it difficult to access these sites from Morocco.
