Morocco qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals for the first time in 22 years, after defeating Cameroon with two goals to none. This victory opened the door for the national team to achieve a historic accomplishment in the FIFA ranking.
According to the virtual calculations conducted by the website Football Meets Data (specialized in real-time ranking points analysis), this victory will grant the Moroccan team an additional 11.42 points, bringing its total to 1733 points. With this number, Morocco advances to eighth place globally, surpassing the national teams of Belgium and Germany, which is the highest position reached by an African team in the history of FIFA’s global ranking.
The new official ranking will be released on January 19, 2026, one day after the final match of the Africa Cup of Nations. However, the current virtual situation confirms that Morocco has indeed become part of the world’s top eight elite, a feat that reflects the significant continuity that the national team has experienced over the years, starting from the historic World Cup in Qatar 2022 (semifinal), through a long series of victories, up to this strong performance on home soil.
