The Gabonese government announced the suspension of the national football team’s activities until further notice, as well as the dissolution of the technical staff. This follows the premature elimination of the “Panthers” from the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco-2025.”
The acting Minister of Sports, Simples-Désiré Mamboula, stated in a statement broadcast by national television, just hours after Gabon’s defeat to Ivory Coast with a score of (2-3) during the last round of competition in Group Six, “The government has decided to dissolve the technical staff and suspend the national team’s activities until further notice. Additionally, players Bruno Ecuele Manga and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been excluded.”
On the other hand, the minister called on the Gabonese Football Federation to “take responsibility” for the results achieved by the “Panthers” during this continental competition, in which the team suffered defeats in all three of its matches.
After losing to Cameroon with a score of (0-1) on December 24, Gabon unexpectedly lost to Mozambique with a score of (2-3) on December 28, before suffering another loss last night against the title holder with a score of (2-3). This placed them at the bottom of Group Six with no points, in a performance that local media described as “disastrous.”
President Brice Oligui Nguema announced last Monday his intention to make “strict decisions” to restore discipline, responsibility, and ambition in the management of Gabonese sports.
