In the meeting hall of the Boumia municipality, located in the Midelt province of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, chaotic events unfolded on Friday morning, unprecedented in the history of local elected councils.
A regular session of the municipal council devolved into verbal altercations and loud shouting in the presence of the city’s Baacha. The situation escalated to a member being slapped by the head of the council’s health committee, shocking and provoking public outcry among attendees.
Local sources reported that the altercation erupted during discussions on agenda items related to the public health budget, where members exchanged sharp accusations regarding the mismanagement of health projects. In a moment of rage, the involved member slapped the female councilor in front of dozens of witnesses, leading to the immediate suspension of the session amid protests and calls for security intervention.
Both the assaulted member and the assailant were taken to the hospital, where they are expected to claim victimhood in the incident.
