Local media reported the incident, praising the leader of the Khraani region in the municipality of Messaouda, referring to him as the “father leader” to justify his actions, indicating that his monitoring of schools is part of a field awareness initiative.
Nationally, this move was met with considerable surprise, as the leader appeared to threaten students with arrest by saying, “those not wearing the coat, step forward.” This led to condemnation and calls for clarification regarding the “authorities” that permit him to undertake this role.
