The Green Youth Movement has accused what it describes as an “organized gang” of cutting down trees within a residential complex in the Boukhlef area of Tangier on Saturday, September 20.
The movement stated that this operation, which began hours earlier, constitutes a blatant violation of Moroccan environmental laws and has sparked widespread outrage among residents and environmental activists.
According to the Green Youth Movement, a group of individuals pooled funds to acquire heavy machinery, including “tracks” (bulldozers and heavy uprooting machines), suggesting that the incident resembles an organized criminal operation akin to a gang specializing in environmental crimes.
These heavy tools, employed to uproot trees, led to the destruction of dozens of trees in a short period.
