Minister of National Education Muhammad Saad Barada Endorses the Development Project for Wadi Al-Makhazeen School in Tangier
Minister of National Education Muhammad Saad Barada endorsed the development project for Wadi Al-Makhazeen School in Tangier, undertaken by a real estate consortium aimed at revitalizing the educational facility’s area and constructing the Seven Towers.
During a visit to several institutions in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Barada came to Tangier on Thursday to inspect the start of the new school year. He later visited the renovation and development site of Wadi Al-Makhazeen School, which is being transformed into a technical institution, aligned with the region’s future vision along Tangier’s Corniche.
Accompanied by senior officials from the ministry, the minister observed the commencement of the facility’s renovation and preservation, dispelling rumors about demolishing the historical institution or converting it into a real estate project.
Institutional Development
Contrary to “rumors,” the real estate company involved in building the “Cap Towers” project in the area has, after an agreement with the Ministry of National Education, decided to rehabilitate and preserve the school.
This initiative is part of a tripartite partnership agreement among the “Saqifah” real estate company, the Regional Academy for Education and Training in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, and the region’s administration. The agreement aims to convert Wadi Al-Makhazeen School—officially closed since 2006 after decades of educational service—into a distinguished educational and cultural space, enhancing artistic and literary development for students in Tangier.
The agreement stipulates that “Saqifah” will prepare engineering, geotechnical, and topographic studies, along with conducting restoration and equipment works. The renovations will include specialized facilities such as an arts hall, a music room, a small theater training space, a cinema, two language classrooms, a communication hall, a multimedia library, a reception area, sanitary facilities, and administrative offices.
These facilities aim to transform the school into a vibrant cultural center that serves youth and fosters creativity while ensuring the preservation of surrounding historical monuments.
Denial of Rumors and Commitment to Heritage Preservation
During his visit, the minister emphatically denied rumors regarding plans to demolish the school or exploit its site for real estate purposes. He confirmed that the project has been carefully planned to ensure the preservation of the school’s historical architectural character, aligning with the ministry’s strategy to revive old educational institutions and convert them into value-added projects.
The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima administration will oversee and support the project, while the regional directorate of the Ministry of National Education will manage and utilize the institution after completion, according to educational and cultural programs that address the city’s needs.
To ensure transparency and effectiveness, a mixed committee has been established to oversee the implementation of the agreement, with regular progress reports on the construction works. This organizational framework enhances the project’s credibility, closely linked to developments in the “Cap Towers” project.
Wadi Al-Makhazeen School: A Symbol of History and Future
Established in the mid-20th century to serve the children of workers and farmers in the Malabata area, Wadi Al-Makhazeen School has witnessed a rich educational history. Its rehabilitation today is not merely a restoration of a building, but a revival of educational and cultural memory, underscoring the importance of connecting the past with the present. By transforming it into an artistic and literary center, the school will continue to be a symbol of the city’s historical legacy while serving as a platform for creativity and innovation for future generations.
Cap Towers Project: A Luxurious Architectural Landmark Enhancing Tangier’s Waterfront
The “Cap Towers” project, developed by “Saqifah” as a result of a partnership between the Manfa Group and the Amanah Group, is one of the most prominent real estate projects in Tangier, significantly altering the architectural and urban landscape of the city. Strategically located on Tangier’s Corniche, it is just steps away from the city center and the historic kasbah, nestled between the notable historical landmarks of the “Arba Pro” building and “Villa Welcome.”
Offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, it is clearly visible from the Spanish city of Tarifa, illustrating Morocco’s image as a developed and open nation connecting Africa and Europe.
The project embodies an integrated vision combining elegance, comfort, and cultural belonging, demonstrating a new direction in the development of Tangier as a modern city with its unique character. Designed in collaboration with the Japanese architectural firm “Atelier Morph” and Moroccan firm “Mad Architecture,” it achieves a blend of modernity and the spirit of traditional Tangier architecture, particularly in the first five floors inspired by authentic Andalusian heritage.
This unique design gives the project a distinctive identity reflecting the city’s rapid development while adhering to the highest international standards. The mixed-use real estate project consists of residential towers and an office tower, along with a vibrant central square featuring a select range of retail shops, restaurants, and recreational and living spaces. It aims to meet the aspirations of city residents and visitors by offering high-quality residential units and premium investment products, such as F3 and F4 apartments, lofts, duplexes, and penthouses.
The project will be implemented in multiple phases, with the first phase—the construction of the first tower now underway—marking the true beginning, focusing on full tax transparency (100%) and legitimate investments to enhance trust in the real estate market.
The marketing responsibility has been entrusted to “Injaz Solutions,” a leading consulting and real estate marketing company in Morocco, known for its extensive experience in marketing major projects. This project is expected to redefine the standards of urban luxury in Tangier and contribute to enhancing the city’s waterfront as a tourist and economic destination while maintaining a balance between modern development and cultural heritage.
