Investigation of Officer After TikTok Video Shows 300 Compliant and 100 Non-Compliant Actions

Subject: Investigation Launched Against Police Officer for Alleged Misconduct in Marrakech

The state of Marrakech has initiated an investigation to identify professional misconduct and violations attributed to a police officer holding the rank of security officer in the traffic division. This follows the dissemination of a video on TikTok, where the officer is seen asking for 100 Dirhams to overlook a violation resulting in a fine of 300 Dirhams.

Security services are investigating the content of the video, particularly as it shows the officer attempting to extort a sum of money from an offending driver, which does not align with the stipulated terms of the penalty report. This behavior raises suspicions of an attempted bribery.

Pending the conclusion of the investigations, the General Directorate of National Security has issued a decision to temporarily suspend the officer from duty.

The video, shared on social media on Friday, August 8, garnered significant views amidst controversy surrounding the actions of the officer, who clearly offered the driver the option to pay 100 Dirhams to bypass the 300 Dirham violation.

The activist in the video claimed he did not have “cash” available but confirmed he would pay using a bank card and requested a receipt for this transaction, prompting the officer to retract his “request” and suggest the driver could leave.
