Popular Singer Dawdi Performs at National School of Commerce and Management Graduation Ceremony
The popular singer Dawdi performed at the graduation ceremony for students of the National School of Commerce and Management in Kenitra. However, his inclusion of traditional female performers, known as “sheikhat,” sparked controversy on social media.
Videos from the event displayed a significant level of engagement from both students and their families during the performance. The popular artist and the sheikhat brought a distinctly Moroccan flavor to the celebration.
Following the video’s circulation, some criticized the National School and its affiliated Ibn Tofail University, labeling the event as inappropriate and arguing that the involvement of sheikhat was not suitable. Conversely, supporters defended the choice, emphasizing that this art form, including sheikhat performances, is a recognized part of Moroccan culture, particularly in regions such as Kenitra.
