In accordance with the directives of King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus has officially reopened. Administrative services at the embassy have resumed fully and are operational.
King Mohammed VI announced the decision to reopen the embassy during his address at the 34th Arab League Summit held in Baghdad on May 17. He expressed that this decision “will contribute to broader prospects for the historical bilateral relations between our two countries and peoples.”
On this occasion, the King reiterated Morocco’s consistent position regarding Syria, which was conveyed in a message to President Ahmad al-Shar’ of Syria. This position emphasizes support for the Syrian people in their aspirations for freedom, security, and stability, as well as the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad also expressed gratitude to King Mohammed VI for the decision to reopen the Moroccan embassy in Damascus.
The embassy has resumed operations at its previous location while administrative procedures are finalized. A new site for the embassy will be established to reflect the renewed dynamics in Moroccan-Syrian relations.
