In response to the desert locust invasion affecting parts of North Africa, Morocco’s Interior Minister, Abdelouafi Laftit, confirmed that the country has successfully managed the situation through its National Anti-Locust Center.
The measures taken have prevented any damage to agricultural crops following field interventions that covered thousands of hectares from Figuig to Mahbes.
In a written response to a parliamentary inquiry, Laftit noted that Morocco’s geographic location occasionally exposes it to desert locust invasions, necessitating proactive preparations to address potential national crises. This involves developing a preemptive intervention plan and identifying human and material resources that could be mobilized based on future outbreaks.
