Elon Musk Announces Formation of New Political Party
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, billionaire Elon Musk announced the establishment of a new political party named the “American Party.” This move follows escalating conflicts with President Donald Trump regarding a proposed budget bill.
The announcement came after a poll conducted by Musk on his platform “X,” which revealed that 80% of respondents supported the creation of a political entity representing the “moderate center.” Musk characterized the formation of the party as an “inevitability.”
Musk has been vocally critical of the proposed legislation that includes raising the national debt ceiling by approximately $4 to $5 trillion, arguing that it undermines efforts to reduce government spending, which he contributed to during his time as an advisor in the Trump administration.
In a post on “X,” Musk stated, “With this reckless spending, we are living in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the American Party is being formed to restore freedom to the people.”
In response, Trump accused Musk of focusing on cuts to electric vehicle incentives and asserted that the bill represents “the largest tax cut in American history.” Tensions between the two have intensified since Musk called for Trump’s impeachment, while Trump characterized Musk’s stance as stemming from “personal motives.”
Despite skepticism from figures such as Republican Representative Jimmy Patronis regarding the seriousness of Musk’s initiative, Musk reaffirmed his commitment to backing candidates who oppose pro-legislation congress members in primary elections.
