The International Sociological Association (ISA) has called for participation in its inaugural meeting of the “Queer ISA Network” focused on LGBTQ+ issues. This meeting is scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco, on July 7, following the decision to expel the Israeli Sociological Association.
The ISA will also host its fifth sociology forum in Rabat starting on July 6, 2025. During this forum, it announced the launch of its LGBTQ+ network, aimed at creating a shared space for cooperation and mutual support among LGBTQ+ members. The network’s goal is to help make the ISA a more inclusive academic community.
In light of a recent call for boycott, the ISA has suspended the membership of the Israeli Sociological Association. The organization has expressed its condemnation of the genocide faced by Palestinians in Gaza and reiterated that it has no formal ties with any Israeli public institutions.
The ISA further lamented that the Israeli Sociological Association has not publicly condemned the dire situation in Gaza. Reflecting the gravity of the current circumstances, the executive committee decided to suspend the collective membership of the Israeli Sociological Association.
