Ceasefire Agreement Between Israel and Iran Amid Ongoing Strikes

Israeli Prime Minister’s Office Approves Ceasefire Proposal Amid Ongoing Conflict

On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced its approval of a ceasefire proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at ending a 12-day war marked by unprecedented military escalation. However, uncertainties persist regarding the agreement’s viability due to continued military operations by both sides, raising concerns over the potential collapse of the truce.

Details of the Israeli Announcement

According to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the ceasefire was approved following a meeting that included top officials such as the Minister of Defense, Chief of Staff, and head of Mossad. The statement asserted that Israel has “achieved and exceeded all operational goals,” including the successful neutralization of a “dual existential threat” presented by Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. It also claimed that the Israeli military now controls the airspace over Tehran and has severely damaged Iranian military leadership, destroying several key government targets.

The statement noted that Israeli forces conducted intensive strikes on government sites in central Tehran within the last 24 hours, indicating that military operations continued right up until the ceasefire was to take effect.

Trump Announces Agreement

In a statement made via social media on Monday evening, President Trump announced a “complete and comprehensive” ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel. He wrote, “Congratulations to everyone! Israel and Iran have agreed to a comprehensive ceasefire for 12 hours, at which point the war will be considered officially over.” This declaration seeks to mitigate the conflict, which has resulted in significant losses for both sides. However, the lack of an official confirmation from Iran raises questions about its commitment to the agreement.

Iran’s Response

In response to a significant missile strike on Qatar following U.S. attacks on June 23, Iran announced its acceptance of the ceasefire. However, despite the agreement’s activation, Iran continued to launch missiles toward Israel, asserting this action was a response to unprecedented Israeli strikes on Tehran prior to the announcement of the ceasefire.

After facing missile attacks even after the ceasefire commenced, Israel declared its intention to retaliate against Tehran for the violation of the agreement.
