The Moroccan passport registered a new improvement in 2026, rising to the 65th position globally according to the Henley Passport Index, with the possibility of entering approximately 72 international destinations without a prior visa or with a visa upon arrival.
This progress reflects the continuing upward trend that the Moroccan passport has experienced in recent years, amid the expansion of the kingdom’s diplomatic relations and the signing of several bilateral agreements that facilitate citizens’ travel to various destinations around the world.
The Moroccan passport occupied lower ranks in previous years before witnessing a gradual improvement, benefiting from an increase in the number of countries that allow entry with simplified visas or upon arrival, which contributed to its ranking in the global index.
The Henley Index relies on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is considered one of the most prominent global indicators that measure passport strength based on the number of destinations that can be accessed without a prior visa.
Observers believe that this improvement, although limited, reflects a development in Morocco’s diplomatic standing and an increasing openness to new partners, especially in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, which positively affects citizens’ mobility, particularly students and business people.
Conversely, the Moroccan passport still lags behind the top ranks globally, which are dominated by European and Asian countries, highlighting challenges related to expanding visa exemption and enhancing the passport’s strength internationally.
Experts affirm that passport strength is now linked to multiple factors, including political and economic stability, the quality of international relations, and the level of trust in the administrative and security systems of countries.
