RABAT — The Crown Prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court explained the circumstances surrounding the arrest of journalist Ali Lmrabet at Tangier Airport, following reports on various social media platforms about his detention.
Lmrabet was apprehended at the airport due to multiple search warrants issued against him for allegedly committing acts classified as criminal. This followed his publication of digital content that included defamatory remarks about individuals and institutions, as well as disparaging statements towards legally established entities, according to the Crown Prosecutor’s statement.
The Crown Prosecutor emphasized that, upon directives from this office, Lmrabet was transferred to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) headquarters in Casablanca, which is responsible for the investigation.
The suspect is currently in custody while an investigation, overseen by the Prosecution Office, is conducted to question him regarding the allegations. This process adheres to all legal procedural safeguards and respects his presumption of innocence, the statement noted.
Once the investigation is concluded, the individual will be returned to the Prosecution Office to determine the necessary legal actions, the statement concluded.
