The U.S. Congress approved the allocation of $20 million for Morocco under the Foreign Military Financing program. This is part of the U.S. budget project for the fiscal year 2026, according to the legislative documents accompanying the budget law.
This funding comes in the context of continued military cooperation between Rabat and Washington, where the foreign military financing program is typically directed towards supporting the acquisition of defense equipment, funding training programs, and enhancing interoperability among allied U.S. militaries.
The Kingdom of Morocco has been classified for years as one of the key U.S. allies outside of NATO. This status grants it special privileges in areas of defense cooperation, military training, and access to strategic equipment and services.
The inclusion of this amount in the 2026 budget reflects the continuity of U.S. support for Morocco at the institutional level, especially under the security partnership that links the two countries in several regional files, including counter-terrorism and enhancing stability in North Africa and the Sahel region.
It is worth noting that Moroccan-American military relations include organizing joint military maneuvers, the most notable being the African Lion exercise, alongside naval and air training and cooperation in logistics and technical support.
This announcement differs from traditional political statements, as it was included in an official legal text approved by Congress. This grants it a binding legislative character within the framework of implementing U.S. defense policy for this fiscal year.
