The Ministry of Transport and Logistics announced the temporary closure of Tetouan-Sania Rmel Airport, starting today, Thursday, following a thorough assessment of the current situation of the airport after the heavy rainfall that the area experienced in recent hours.
The ministry clarified in a statement that “within its commitment to ensure the safety of travelers and users, and following a thorough assessment of the current situation at Tetouan-Sania Rmel Airport after the heavy rainfall that the area experienced in recent hours, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics announces that, in coordination with the relevant technical authorities, it has decided to close the airport temporarily starting today, Thursday, January 29, 2026, in order to maintain the safety and security of air navigation and ensure the safe operation conditions of the airport, and to allow the relevant services to carry out the necessary works and technical interventions.”
The same source added that this decision comes after recording technical data that necessitate immediate precautionary measures, in full compliance with the national and international standards applicable in the field of air navigation safety, ensuring the highest levels of security and safety.
The ministry confirmed that the reopening of Tetouan-Sania Rmel Airport will occur as soon as the works are completed and all required safety conditions are met, noting that it will update the public on all developments in a timely manner.
