The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned, in an alert bulletin with an orange level of vigilance, of snow and rain or heavy rain showers along with a cold wave and strong wind gusts that will affect several cities in Morocco, between Saturday and Tuesday, January 17th to 20th.
The Directorate explained that snowfalls are expected starting from altitudes of 1300 meters, ranging between 50 and 90 cm in the provinces and regions of Al Haouz, Azilal, and Ouarzazate. Snow accumulations will be between 30 and 50 cm in Chichaoua, Midelt, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Ifrane, Khenifra, Sefrou, Boulemane, Al-Hoceima, Kserif, Taza, and Taroudant, starting from Saturday at 10:45 AM until Monday at 11 PM.
The same phenomenon is expected to start from altitudes of 1200 meters (ranging from 10 to 30 cm) in the provinces and regions of Driouch, Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Taourirt, El Hajeb, Chefchaouen, Souss-Massa, and Tiznit, starting from Saturday at 10:45 AM until Monday at 11 PM.
The Directorate mentioned that a cold wave is expected, with temperatures between minus 03 and minus 09 degrees Celsius in the provinces and regions of Tinghir, Al Haouz, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Jerfif, Taza, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, and Khenifra, starting from Sunday until Tuesday.
It added that heavy rain or rain showers are expected, ranging from 30 to 50 mm in the provinces and regions of Tangier-Assilah, Fahs-Anjra, Mdiq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Larache, Kenitra, Safi, Souss-Massa, and Tiznit.
Additionally, rain accumulations of 25 to 35 mm are expected in Rabat, Salé, Temara-Skhirat, Ben Slimane, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Mediouna, Berrechid, Nouacer, El Jadida, Sidi Ben Nour, Essaouira, Agadir, Iddaw Tanane, Sidi Sliman, Sidi Qasim, Khmissat, Youssoufia, Inzqan Ait Melloul, and Sidi Ifni, starting from Saturday at 10 PM until Sunday at 12 PM.
In the same bulletin, strong wind gusts ranging from 75 to 85 km/h are expected in the provinces and regions of Tiznit, Tata, and Taroudant, starting from Saturday from 10:45 AM until 5 PM.
Strong winds are also expected in Tata, Souss-Massa, Tiznit, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, Tarfaya, and Smara on Sunday from 9 PM until 11 PM.
