Officially, Moroccan commentator Jawad Bidda ended the controversy regarding his exclusion from commentary on Moroccan national team matches, following reports of a decision against him by the Qatari channel “beIN Sports”.
Jawad announced on Monday that he would comment on the match between Morocco and Nigeria in the semi-finals of the African Cup on January 14.
News spread about the channel banning Bidda from commenting on Moroccan matches after an Algerian protest regarding his commentary in the match between Morocco and Cameroon, where he referred to a player from Cameroon as “the legend,” a player who had caused Algeria’s exclusion and denied it qualification for the World Cup in Qatar.
Following the commentary, Algerians, some working at the channel, launched a campaign against Bidda, before Moroccan websites published news of his exclusion amid a solidarity campaign and a call to boycott the channel, especially since several of its employees persistently insult Morocco without any actions being taken against them.
