The General Directorate of Meteorology reported in an alert bulletin of an orange vigilance level that strong rain sometimes with thunderstorms, snowfall, cold weather, and occasionally strong gusts of wind are expected. This will occur from Monday to Thursday (January 5-8) in several regions of Morocco.
The Directorate explained that strong rain, sometimes with thunderstorms, between 35 to 55 mm is expected in the regions of Azilal, Khenifra, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, and Al Haouz. Rainfall between 25 to 35 mm is expected in the regions of Tiznit, Oujda Angad, Youssoufia, Al Hoceima, Nador, Driouch, Berkane, Safi, Essaouira, Al Qasr al-Sraghna, Chichaoua, Khouribga, Khemisset, Fkih Ben Salah, Hajeb, Sefrou, Taza, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, and Taroudannt. This will occur from Monday afternoon until Tuesday at 3 AM.
It is also expected that snowfall starting from an altitude of 1200 meters (between 20 to 50 cm) will occur in the regions of Ifrane, Boulemane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Taroudannt, Ouarzazate, Midelt, Azilal, and Beni Mellal. This will take place from Monday afternoon until Tuesday at 11 PM.
Additionally, snowfalls starting from an altitude of 900 meters (between 5 to 15 cm) are expected in the regions of Taza, Chichaoua, Figuig, Driouch, Jerada, Taourirt, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, and Guercif. This will occur from Tuesday at 6 AM until Wednesday at 9 AM.
Cold weather is also expected, ranging from -4 to -10 degrees Celsius in the regions of Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Midelt, and Boulemane. Temperatures between 0 and -4 degrees Celsius are expected in the regions of Jerada, Taourirt, Khenifra, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Taza, Chefchaouen, Figuig, Chichaoua, Taroudannt, and Ouarzazate. This will occur from Tuesday until Thursday.
Strong gusts of wind between 75 to 85 km/h are also expected in the regions of Boulemane, Midelt, Nador, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Al Haouz, Tiznit, Tinghir, Taroudannt, Sidi Ifni, Ouarzazate, and Guelmim. This will take place from Tuesday at 6 AM until Wednesday at 9 AM.
