The Moroccan embassy in America held a celebration for the fifth night of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, which is celebrated this year in December 2025, symbolizing “the victory of light over darkness.”
The event witnessed the lighting of the menorah alongside Morocco’s ambassador, Youssef Amrani, members of the diplomatic corps, and Jewish and non-Jewish personalities.
It is worth noting that this celebration symbolizes “the miracle of light over darkness, then and now.” This description reflects the essence of Hanukkah, which celebrates the Maccabees’ victory over the Greeks in the second century BC, and the miracle of the menorah oil that lasted eight days instead of one.
Judaism in Morocco
Morocco embraces a rich Jewish heritage that dates back thousands of years, and it was a safe haven for Jews during World War II thanks to the stance of King Mohammed V.
In modern times, the Abraham Accords of 2020 strengthened ties between Morocco and Israel, leading to increased economic and cultural cooperation. The Moroccan embassy’s celebration of Hanukkah reflects this commitment to religious tolerance and coexistence, bringing together Muslims and Jews in a joint celebration.
