Sports Network Justifies the Broadcast of Offensive Ad Against Morocco

The Moroccan official sports channel recently sparked significant backlash after airing an advertisement featuring a distorted map of Morocco during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Viewers expressed surprise at such a mistake from a public broadcaster.

The advertisement, promoting a betting company that is an official sponsor of the tournament hosted in Morocco this year, displayed an incomplete map of the country.

In response to the incident, the sports channel stated that the advertisement was part of the official international broadcast signal provided by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) during live coverage of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations matches. They clarified that they do not have any influence over the content of this broadcast signal and act merely as a transmission channel for content supplied by the event organizers.

Upon recognizing the error, the CAF issued a formal apology to the national radio and television company, taking full responsibility for the incident. They committed to correcting the advertisement in question and ensuring that similar errors do not recur in the future.
