The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange alert due to an extreme heatwave accompanied by the Cherki winds. This heatwave is expected to commence on Friday and continue into early next week.
Extreme Heatwave and Cherki Winds
According to the meteorological report, the heatwave is set to begin on Friday, June 17, with temperatures ranging from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius. Affected cities include:
- Larache, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Salé, Témara, Ben Slimane, Mediouna, Nouacer, Berrechid, Settat, Khouribga, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Agadir Ida Outanane, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan.
Temperatures will fluctuate between 38 and 33 degrees in cities such as Rabat, Mohammedia, Casablanca, El Jadida, Hajeb, Sefrou, Khénifra, Azilal, Al Haouz, Inzegane-Ait Melloul, Chouka-Ait Baha, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni.
From June 27 to June 30, temperatures will rise between 43 and 47 degrees Celsius in cities including Sidi Qasim, Sidi Slimane, Khemisset, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Salah, Qalaat Saraghna, Rahamna, Marrakech, Al Youssoufia, Chichaoua, Taroudant, TATA, Zagora, Assa-Zag, Smara, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, and Ouarzazate.
Tangier will experience direct effects from the heat and Cherki winds starting Saturday, June 28, through Monday, June 30. Temperatures will range from 38 to 42 degrees in Tangier-Assilah, as well as in Rabat, Mohammedia, Casablanca, El Jadida, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Hajeb, Sefrou, Khouribga, Khénifra, Azilal, Al Haouz, Inzegane-Ait Melloul, Chouka-Ait Baha, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni.
During this period, temperatures will reach between 42 and 46 degrees in Larache, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Salé, Témara, Ben Slimane, Mediouna, Nouacer, Berrechid, Settat, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Guelmim, Agadir Ida Outanane, and Tan-Tan.
