US star Christian Pulisic suffers leg fracture in World Cup defeat against Belgium.

Christian Pulisic, the U.S. soccer star, sustained a fractured right leg during the Americans’ World Cup defeat to Belgium and will be out for several weeks.

Diagnosis from the U.S. Soccer Federation on Thursday revealed that Pulisic has a bone bruise and a microfracture in his tibia and fibula, identified after an X-ray and MRI on Tuesday.

If the U.S. had progressed in the tournament, he would have been unable to participate further.

Pulisic is anticipated to return to training ahead of AC Milan’s Serie A opener against Torino on August 23.

During the match, Pulisic collided with Belgian captain Youri Tielemans while attempting a shot in the 52nd minute of Monday’s 4-1 round-of-16 loss in Seattle. He continued playing but was visibly limping, leading to Sebastian Berhalter substituting him in the 59th minute.

Pulisic did not score during the World Cup, having missed one of the Americans’ five matches due to a calf injury and leaving two other games early. He has a total of 30 goals in 90 international appearances.

Turning 28 in September, Pulisic is entering his fourth season with AC Milan.
