The authorities in Gibraltar announced new measures concerning Moroccan citizens benefiting from old-age pensions under the retirement system in this British overseas territory, allowing them to receive their financial entitlements directly within Morocco without the need to travel.
According to official data published by the public broadcasting agency “GBC News,” beneficiaries of these pensions will be able to transfer them directly to bank accounts in Morocco, as part of new arrangements related to the agreement regarding the future relationship between Gibraltar and the Schengen Area.
The authorities clarified that retirees residing in Morocco, who previously had to travel to Gibraltar to manage certain administrative or financial procedures, can now simply open a bank account with the “Banque Populaire” in Morocco, and then provide the pensions administration with their account details to facilitate direct transfers of their entitlements.
These measures come in the context of changes to travel regulations following the new agreement with the European Union, where it is expected that residents in Morocco will need a Schengen visa in the future when wishing to travel to Gibraltar, prompting the authorities to adopt alternative solutions to ease retirees’ access to their rights without the hassle of traveling.
The Government of Gibraltar urged all beneficiaries to review the technical memorandum issued by them and to make the necessary banking arrangements as soon as possible to ensure the continued smooth and regular payment of pensions.
