Conditions of Detention of Activist Saida El Alami a Subject of Dispute Between Her Family and the Prison Administration

The conditions of detention of blogger and human rights activist Saida Alami have returned to the forefront of discussion on social media in Morocco, after information regarding her situation inside the local prison “Jedida 2” circulated. This prompted the prison administration to issue a clarifying statement in which it denied what it described as “false claims” regarding the conditions of her detention.

The prison administration confirmed that Alami regularly benefits from her right to contact her family by phone, noting that her last contact took place on June 12, 2026. The inmate, however, refused to utilize her daily contact sessions on June 15 and 17 without providing reasons for this, according to the statement.

The institution also clarified in its statement that the individual in question benefits from family visits, with the last visit she received occurring on May 6, 2026, adding that she had requested her family members not to visit her until further notice.

Regarding the speculation about her possibly entering a hunger strike, the prison administration reported that Saida Alami had notified the administration of her intention to strike before retracting that decision and resuming her normal meals, according to the same source.

The prison institution also denied reports regarding her suffering from chronic illnesses, affirming that her medical file does not contain any evidence of diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or sciatica.

On the other hand, Saida Alami’s family expressed their concern about her conditions inside the prison, considering that there are difficulties related to communicating with her and ensuring her health status, which the prison administration categorically denied.
