In coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Monitoring, the judicial police in the city of Tangier arrested six individuals on Friday, January 30, on suspicion of being linked to an international drug trafficking and psychotropic substances network.
The suspects were apprehended in one of the city’s neighborhoods while engaging in preparations to execute an international drug trafficking operation. Arrest and search operations conducted in this case resulted in the seizure of 75 kilograms of hashish and a set of tools and equipment used in its compression and packaging.
The Tangier police also seized an amount of 2,310,000 dirhams from the detainees, suspected to be proceeds from this criminal activity.
Search operations also led to the seizure of a number of cars, motorcycles, trucks, and trailers, which are suspected of being used in the commission of these criminal acts and facilitating this criminal activity.
The suspects were subjected to judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. This is to determine any further potential extensions of this criminal activity and to uncover all the criminal acts attributed to the individuals involved.
This security operation comes just one day after the arrest of 24 individuals at the Port of Tangier city, including six police officers and six employees from a local territorial monitoring unit and two customs agents, on suspicions of abuse of power by intervening on behalf of individuals to evade customs inspection, in exchange for financial commissions as bribery.
