Weather Authority Warns of Hailfall in Tangier and Areas in the North.

The General Directorate of Meteorology announced in an updated warning bulletin of an orange vigilance level that an exceptional weather phenomenon will affect the regions of Tangier-Assilah, M’diq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Wazzan, Tetouan, and Larache.

The meteorological authorities stated that they expect rainfall and thunderstorm showers (between 60 and 80 mm) with the possibility of hail in these areas. This will begin today, Sunday, at ten in the morning and continue until tomorrow, Monday, at four in the afternoon.

It is also expected that the same weather phenomenon will record (from 30 to 60 mm) in both Taounate and Al Hoceima during the same timeframe.

The meteorological authorities added that strong stormy winds (from 75 to 90 km/h) are also expected in Figuig, Taourirt, Jerada, Taza, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaouen. This will occur from today, Sunday, starting at ten in the morning until ten at night.

Similarly, the same phenomenon is expected to occur in the regions of Tangier-Assilah, Wazzan, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, M’diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Taza, Meknes, Al Hajeb, Ifrane, Fez, Boulmane, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Rabat, Salé, Temara-Skhairy, Khémisset, Ben Slimane, Berrechid, Casablanca, Mediouna, Mohammedia, Nador, Al Jadida, and Midelt. This will commence on Tuesday at two in the morning until Wednesday at six in the morning (January 27 and 28).

The directorate also expects to record snowfalls starting from an altitude of 1600 meters (between 10 and 20 cm) in Midelt, Jerada, Sefrou, Taza, Boulmane, Ifrane, and Al Hoceima. This will begin today, Sunday, at ten in the morning and continue until tomorrow, Monday, at nine in the morning.

The weather is expected to be cold (between minus 03 and minus 08) in the regions of Midelt, Boulmane, Taza, Jerada, Sefrou, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Khenifra, and Chichaoua, today, Sunday.

It is worth noting that the European model (ECMWF) has revealed unprecedented forecasts for the period between January 23, 2026, and February 7, 2026. It warned that the total rainfall accumulation may exceed 600 mm in just two weeks in northern Morocco.
