The Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi stated in a press conference on Saturday, December 20, in the capital Rabat, that he feels better after his ankle injury. He confirmed that the national team is determined to win the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to be held from December 21 to January 18.
Hakimi said on the eve of Morocco’s match against the Comoros national team, “We have been waiting for this moment for a long time, and we realize the responsibility placed on our shoulders during this tournament.” He emphasized that “the national team has worked hard to be ready and to keep the cup on our soil.”
He added, “We know that there are great expectations from the Moroccan public because we are playing on our land,” pointing out that “we have a strong, cohesive, and harmonious team, which we will work to showcase during the tournament.”
Speaking about his injury, Hakimi stated, “I feel that I am in good condition, and I am following my rehabilitation program. I hope to be ready to play, and the final decision rests with the national coach.”
He also said, “The Africa Cup of Nations is special for me, as it is held on our land and among all Moroccans who will support us, which is an additional motivation for us to do our best to honor the national jersey.”
He went on to say, “We will try to find the necessary balance between the pillars of the national team and the talented young players to compete in this tournament.”
He concluded by saying, “We bear a great responsibility after the Moroccan reserve team won the Arab Cup and the under-20 national team won the World Cup. This serves as an additional motivation for us. Morocco today wants to win everything, and now it is our turn.”
