The government has announced that all tents erected following the Al-Haouz earthquake will be removed by September, signaling progress in housing reconstruction efforts.
On Thursday, the government reported the completion of 46,650 housing units, with the number of remaining tents decreasing from 129,000 to 47. These remaining tents are expected to be fully dismantled by next month. Additionally, field committees have found solutions for 4,895 housing units located in rugged terrains.
The inter-ministerial committee overseeing the reconstruction and rehabilitation program met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch. During this meeting, the implementation of the program and the progress made on its various components were discussed, following royal directives.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister commended the efforts of all government sectors and agencies involved in effectively executing the program as per royal instructions. He urged the High Atlas Development Agency and all stakeholders to expedite work on remaining projects.
The total value of support provided to families for rebuilding and rehabilitating their damaged homes has reached 4.2 billion dirhams. Meanwhile, the total amount allocated for emergency assistance, set at 2,500 dirhams monthly, has exceeded 2.4 billion dirhams.
The meeting also highlighted advancements in managing the aftermath of the Al-Haouz earthquake while improving local territorial infrastructure to meet community expectations. Significant progress has been noted in upgrading four sections of National Route 7, with improvement levels between 25% and 65%. The committee reported the commencement of construction on 165 kilometers of roads and 29 infrastructure projects, with a budget of 920 million dirhams.
In the education sector, work continues on rehabilitating and reconstructing educational institutions, with 269 institutions completed. In health, rehabilitation of 70 health centers has been finalized, while work on 35 additional centers is set for completion by August 2025, and 14 more by the end of October 2025.
In agriculture, action plans have been completed, distributing livestock and barley free of charge to farmers. Agricultural and economic infrastructure has also been rehabilitated. In water management, damage to 43 hydrological stations has been repaired, and some villages have been connected to drinking water networks.
In tourism, 229 accommodation establishments have benefited from the first phase of support, with a budget of 61.1 million dirhams allocated. The second phase of support, amounting to approximately 30 million dirhams, has been granted to 95 establishments.
During the meeting, the support and assistance provided to merchants affected by the earthquake was examined. To date, 1,600 traders have benefited from this initiative.
