Viral Rumor: Morocco’s AFCON 2025 Title Remains Intact Despite False CAS Decision

Rabat – A document circulating on social media claiming that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has revoked Morocco’s title for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and awarded it to Senegal is false.

The viral document purports that CAS validated the appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation, overturned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision, and declared Senegal the champions of the 2025 AFCON. However, official information from CAS contradicts these assertions.

One major indication of the document’s falsity is its reference number. The circulating document uses the case number CAS 2026/A/10857, while CAS has verified that Senegal’s appeal is actually logged as CAS 2026/A/12295. Such discrepancies would not exist in an authentic final ruling.

Furthermore, the document inaccurately presents the case as solely a dispute between the Senegalese Football Federation and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. In reality, CAS has clarified that the appeal was directed against both CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, as the ruling in question stemmed from CAF’s Appeals Committee.

Another critical issue lies in the alleged ruling date of June 10, 2026. CAS has not issued any official statement or final ruling concerning the AFCON final dispute on that date. An examination of the court’s announcements reveals no record of a definitive judgment being made.

The latest official update from CAS on this matter was issued on March 25, 2026. In this statement, the court confirmed that Senegal’s appeal had been received and that an arbitration panel had been formed. CAS also indicated that it was premature to schedule a hearing or release a timeline for a final decision.

Additionally, CAS noted that Senegal had requested more time to submit its appeal brief until it obtained the full written rationale behind CAF’s ruling. The court also emphasized that arbitration processes remain confidential during their progression.

CAF’s Decision Remains Effective

At present, the decision from CAF’s Appeals Committee is the latest official ruling in this case.

On March 17, 2026, CAF determined that Senegal had withdrawn from the AFCON final when its players left the field. In accordance with Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations, CAF awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory, nullified the previous disciplinary ruling, and upheld Morocco’s protest.

Subsequently, Senegal appealed that decision to CAS, but no final ruling has yet been made.

Multiple Indicators Suggest a Fake Document

The legitimacy of the viral document is further undermined by its absence from the official CAS database. It also omits CAF from the list of parties involved and appears as a low-quality image featuring signatures, stamps, and an Arabic translation, all lacking any official source.

CAS typically releases non-confidential decisions through its official database or recent decisions section. However, no ruling pertaining to the AFCON final has been published.

Consequently, there is currently no official evidence indicating that CAS has overturned Morocco’s 2025 AFCON title or declared Senegal as champions. Until CAS makes a formal ruling, CAF’s decision remains the only valid and enforceable one, rendering the viral document misleading and likely fabricated.
