Seizure of more than 17,000 pills and 60 kg of shisha tobacco from a Moroccan in Tangier-Mediterranean

The security forces at the Port of Tangier Med thwarted an attempt to smuggle 17,458 narcotic medical pills and 60 kilograms of “maassel” on board a utility vehicle.

Border control and inspection operations applied to this vehicle immediately after its arrival on a maritime trip from one of the European ports resulted in the seizure of the amounts of maassel and 5,824 narcotic medical pills, and the investigation procedures led to the arrest of its driver, a 47-year-old Moroccan citizen.

Continuing with the inspection procedures, an additional shipment of 11,634 narcotic medical pills was found in the interior structure of this vehicle, bringing the total seizures of psychoactive substances to 17,458 narcotic medical pills.

The arrested suspect has been subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, in order to reveal all the circumstances and details of this case, as well as to identify any further national and international extensions of this criminal activity.

This case falls within the context of the intensive and ongoing security operations being carried out by various security services, aimed at combating international drug trafficking and psychoactive substances.
